The Katsina State Police Command on Wednesday announced the arrest of 21-year-old Halilu Yusuf for the alleged kidnapping of a six-year-old boy in the community.
The arrest was announced by the police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, during a press briefing in the state yesterday.
He explained that the police, on the 17th of August at about 2 pm, acted on a credible intelligence passed to the command, which led to the arrest of Halilu Yusuf, 21, from Gezawa, who was accused of kidnapping a six-year-old in Shinkafi village.
The police explained that the suspect had taken the teenager into an unknown area where he was kidnapped. Upon his abduction, the suspect went on to demand the sum of N2m as ransom payment from the parents of the teenager. It was also explained that the teenager is the son of the suspect’s mentor, who stays in Kofar-Sauri quarters,
He said that the suspect lured and kidnapped the victim, who happened to be the son of his mentor, from Kofar-Sauri quarters and demanded an N2m ransom from the father.
According to the PPRO, the suspect had taken the suspect to his home, where they stayed together. For the night after, he relocated him to an unknown place where he made calls to the family, hiding his identity to inform the family of the abduction of the young boy.
Unknown to the suspect, the police tracked him, leading to his arrest in the state. The PPRO noted that the police mobilised their team immediately after the report was received, which led to the arrest. It was also explained that the team successfully tracked the suspect and arrested him while the victim was rescued unhurt.
According to the police, the suspect confessed to having committed the crime. The police also disclosed that the suspect will be charged in court as soon as the investigations are concluded.
