The Abia State Government has announced the postponement of school resumption in the sate 2024/2025 academic session. The government disclosed that the postponement affects all the schools in the state including public and private schools.
The development teas announced by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Okey Kanu, during a press briefing after the week state executive council meeting, He noted that the decision was reached after the resumption had conceded with the Muslim holiday.
The commissioner disclosed that the new resumption date has been set as Wednesday, September 23, instead of the initial Monday, September 16.
The commissioner also disclosed that the second team for training for the teachers would kick start on September 11 and end on September 20, 2024. He noted that the training exercise would be held in three different centres in the state, which are Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia, and 1800 teachers would be trained in the period.
The commissioner disclosed that the training was part of the ongoing transformation by the state governor to help the educational sector.
The commissioner noted that over 200 teachers were trained in the first batch; according to him, the remaining government training was part of the protocol for school resumption in the state.
The commissioner also disclosed that the state government had given time to the owners of properties in the state capital to register them at the old rate for the next 90 days.
Also, the Edo state government has announced the postponement of school resumption in the state. The post was announced in a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Ojo Akin-Longe, in Benin.
He argued that the postponement was due to the rate of fuel prices in the state currently which has been hiked by the government in recent weeks.
The statement disclosed that the resumption, which was planned for September 9th 2024, was postponed till the fourth notice.
He disclosed that an official statement had been sent to the schools to shut their doors as the tension that had arisen from the increased fuel price was high. He also noted that the increased price has presented considerable challenges for parents in the state.
The statement further encouraged parents in the state to be aware of the activities of their children and wards because of the current situation in the country.
