The residents of Salisu Ango, Governor Umar Dikko Radda’s liaison officer, Gyaza village, Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, have confirmed an attack by suspected bandits.

The attackers who stored the residence heavily armed have reportedly killed Salisu Ango and his wife while the bandits took away his second wife.

In another attack in the Tashar Gamji community of Kankia Local Government Area on Saturday night, the gunmen attacked the community. Also, during the attack so, many animals and food items belonging to the locals were taken away by the criminals. The Bandits had moved from house to house to take the food and livestock.

The third attack in the state Shirgi community in Batsari Local Government Area has resulted in the killing of one person killed one person and abducted 28 persons while another set of individuals were injured during the attack.

A member of the community who spoke anonymously explained that the bandits had invaded the community on the night of Sunday, with their major targets being women and children; he noted that the person killed by the bandits was ‘Amadu Suru’ while trying to protect his livestock.

Also, in a separate attack, but this time, in the Shirgi community in Batsari Local Government Area, the gunmen killed one person, injured another, and abducted 28 others. The assailants also rustled several domestic animals from the community.

When contacted, The Police Command in the state confirmed the two attacks in Kankia. Still, the command noted the Divisional Police Officer attached to Shirgi was yet to give an update to the command. The PPRO noted that full information would be presented to the public when a fuel report was provided after receiving a report from the Divisional Police Officer in Batsari.

In the past years, Kankia has experienced a low level of bandit attacks. The community shares the bands with Dutsinma, an area known for high terrorism activities in the state.

Ango, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kankia Chapter, was shot dead after some unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded his home on Friday, August 16, 2024.
