Along with several angry ladies and young people, commercial tricycle operators in Delta State’s Warri and Effurun metropolis, staged a nonviolent protest on the streets on Wednesday against the official price increase and the shortage of premium motor spirit.
Hundreds of market women and Keke riders were observed marching down the main thoroughfares at nine in the morning, demanding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu step in immediately to stop the increase in fuel prices
The protestors’ irritation and fury over the price spike, which has driven prices to almost N1,100 per litre and made their financial woes worse, were expressed through signs and slogans they screamed.
“Tinubu, intervene now to alleviate commuters’ suffering,” “Tinubu, activate Warri and Kaduna refineries without further delay,” and “We are suffering in silence, the fuel price hike is a killer” were among the statements written on some of the placards.
The demonstrators demanded that President Tinubu act right now to resolve the issue and offer Nigerians relief.
PUNCH Metro saw some of the demonstrators bemoaning the economic difficulties brought on by the unconscionable increase in fuel prices as well as the lack of the item as they marched from the well-known Deco Road towards Enerhen.
Furthermore, the majority of the gas stations along the Warri-Sapele route were closed to drivers on Wednesday morning, according to our correspondent, and the ones that were operating charged more than N1,000 per litre for gasoline.
As a result, this development negatively impacted both interstate and city commuters, as drivers increased their transportation costs.
On Wednesday, the normally busy Airport Junction in Effurun, which serves as a hub for interstate transportation, was a fraction of its former self as eager travelers battled to purchase tickets and drivers angrily lamented their inability to obtain fuel.
