Six persons from the same lineage in Kano state have been reported dead from a suspected incident of food poisoning over the weekend.
The incident, according to reports, includes the mother, Alhaqatu Abdulkarim, and her five children. The victims had died after eating a local food delicacy in the Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The dead victims had complained of abdominal pains, which led to their rush to the Gwarzo General Hospital, where they were all confirmed dead by the medical personnel at different intervals.
Confirming the incident, the Ward Head of Karkari village, Yakubu Danazum, explained that the incident that led to the death of the victims had happened on Tuesday, 13th August 2024. He noted that, unfortunately, two of the victims had died the same day, while two others lost their lives another day. The mother died on Thursday, 15th August 2024. The final member of the family was reported dead on Friday, 16th August 2024.
The Ward Head confirmed that the victims have since been buried according to Islamic practices and religion. He noted that a seven-day prayer will be observed for the victims on Tuesday, 2oth August 2024.
He explained that the victims were half-orphans who had lost their father seven months ago, leaving the six chilled and another six from the second wife. He noted that victims had eaten a local delicacy before their death.
The victims’ names were given as Alhaqatu Abdulkarim, 35 (Mother); Usman Abdulkarim, nine; Fiddausi Abdulkarim, 11; Hafsa Abdulkarim, seven; Jamilu Abdulkarim, four; and Bashari Abdulkarim, 19.
The country’s positioning incident has been a reoccurring situation in the past week, with several states affected by the trend. Some of the states affected include Kwara, Nasarawa, and now Kano state in the Northeastern part of the country.
The health authorities in the states have confirmed their efforts to tackle the incidents.
Meanwhile, health authorities in Kano state did not respond to the incident when this report was filed.
