Gawuna, Akande, Suleiman, and 557 other people are named by Tinubu as chairs and members of the governing bodies of federal tertiary institutions

An updated list of the newly appointed  governing councils and boards for federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education have been approved by president Tinubu.

This was mentioned in a statement released by the permanent secretary, General Services, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Nnamdi Mbaeri on Friday,the permanent secretary revealed that, thedecision is pointed at ensuring a strategic and effective management of the Nigerian tertiary educational system.

The updated list of the new governing council includes 51 federal universities, 24 federal colleges of education, and 37 federal polytechnics, and each governing council has five members which includes a chairman, and in total, 560 individuals have been selected  by the president to serve these governing council.

Among the newly appointed candidate is, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, a formal governorship aspirant of Kano who has been elected as the president of the governing council at the Bayero university, Kano,

And members of the governing council include Abubakar Dauda, Dr. Mrs. Nora Oluchi Alo, Hon. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, and Musa Abbas. 

Chief Bisi Akande,who is a former governor of Osun from 1999 to 2003 and also the first intern chairman of the All Progressive has also been appointed as the chairman of the governing council of University of Ibadan, Oyo state. serving with him on this appointment are, Alexander Olorumi Ajipe, Hon, Nelson Alapa, Ifeoma Nwankwo and professor Emmanuel Babalope Alo.

Another appointee is, Abubakar Sadiq Usman, special assistant to the governor of Niger state has also been appointed as the chair man of the governing council of the federal polytechnic, N’yak in Plateau state, other members who would be supporting him to govern effectively are Dominic Alanchia Fipam, Dr. Yakubu Maccido Ahmed, Adekunle Olatunde Adebanjo, and Hon. Innocent Tirsel. 

Former Chairman and member of the house of representatives on the Nigerian air force and former interpol operative,Rt Hon. Dr. Shehu Koko, has also been appointed as the chairman of the governing council of the Waziri Umoru federal polytechnic Birnin Kebbi, and others serving alongside him are,Musa Bakare, Barrister Ahmed El-Marzuk, Barrister Yomi Siwohiku, and Salisu Kanya.

National Cordinator of the Tinubu support organization,Aminu Suleiman, has been appointed as the chairman of the governing council of the education Keana, Nasarawa State, and Celestine Elechi, Barrister Usman Ibrahim Galle, Hon. Coker Anjorin, and Hadi Okashatu will be serving with him as his subordinates.

The set up of these governing council was put in place to enhance the governance and entire management of these universities in a way that education in such institutions would be deemed worthy by students, with the current initiation of these governing councils, issues like financial mismanagement, administrative in efficiencies and the over all quality of education will be heavily improved and worked on.

It has been gathered that various stake holders pushed for the immediate initiation of these governing council, these stake holders include educational experts, policy analysts and the entire academic community who saw every need for this development.

Also student unions and staff associations who seek a more accountable and transparent learning environment demanded for these formations.
