Senator Monday Okpebholo, who is the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), must win the September 21 governorship election, according to Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North.
In order to ensure that the APC won the gubernatorial election, Oshiomhole stated that, he is prepared to assume the role of sweeper in order for Okpebholo to assume office as governor as he gave a speech to kick off the party’s election campaign council.
In order to help the APC win the governorship race, the former governor charged those who have been affected by flooding and whose children were attending schools with bare floors to vote and support the aspirant.
He said “If I have to play the sweeper role, I’m ready to sweep Senator Monday Okpebholo into office as governor.
“Every member and supporter of the APC is a member of our campaign for genuine change under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
“Titles do not matter, every member is a canvasser, every member of our party must work hard to win their units and wards, local government and state.”
Senator Matthew Urhoghide, the Director General of the APC Campaign Council, encouraged the party’s disgruntled members to come together and work toward victory. He asked people who felt wronged to downplay the importance of money and focus on the general welfare of everyone.
The electorate of Edo State will meet to select the next governor of the state on September 21. The candidates for the gubernatorial position are, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, Asue Ighodaloconv, an aspirant from PDP, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party
INEC officially released a circular on how the elections would be conducted, it read.
In line with the provision of Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, some political parties conducted fresh primaries to replace their earlier nominated candidates by the deadline of 15th April 2024. The Action Alliance (AA) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) replaced their Governorship candidates and their running mates. In addition, the African Action Congress (AAC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Boot Party (BP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) replaced the running mates of their candidates only.
Overall, seventeen (17) political parties are fielding candidates in the election. Sixteen (16) are male while one (1) is female. The final list, which also gives the breakdown of the candidates by age, academic qualifications and disability, has been published at our office in Edo State and also uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information.”
Political parties then urged to start their publicly sponsored campaigns which would be concluded at midnight on September 19, 2024, according to INEC. This is in accordance with items 8 and 12 of the election calendar and timetable.
Oshomhole, is a strong APC member has countless times declared his support for the APC aspirant,Senator Monday Okpebholo.
