IGP frowns at alleged killing and attack of Police members by Islamic Movement of Nigeria

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, criticised the assault officers attached to the police in the Federal Capital Territory by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria on Sunday. The IGP has ordered men of the police force to track down the individuals equally.

The IGP condemned the attack through a statement signed by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, o Monday,

He noted that the police chief was saddened by the act of violence against the command officers deployed around the FCT on Sunday; he noted that the individuals who suffered the criminal act had tempered the peace and stability of the country.

The statement revealed that the police, between Sunday and the afternoon of Monday, have successfully arrested 97 members of the criminal group, with several weapons recovered during the process. The spokesperson noted that the suspects used weapons during the attacks.

The IGP noted that he has directed the police officers attached to the FCT to arrest the remaining individuals who will be made to face the full wrath of the law. The Statement confirms the IGPs commitment to protecting the lives and [properties of all the country’s residents, noting that the security would not tolerate any form of lawlessness.

On Sunday, the Police reported that Shi’ite members attacked its personnel during their procession, resulting in the death of two police officers, with three others unconscious in hospital.

The Shi’ite group, on the other hand, claimed that the police killed and injured several of their members during their procession in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The statement further confirms the police’s plans to track down the incidents and uncover their causes, with a view to preventing their recurrence in the future.

According to the statement, the IGP extends his condolences to the families of the affected security personnel, who have now been made to mourn through an act of criminality. He also offered his messages to the injured officers who are currently receiving treatments in different health facilities in the FCT.

The Statement further called on the citizens to be active in the fight against criminal activities in the country. He explained that citizens have an active role to play in the fight against criminality.

He stated that the IG extends condolences to the grieving families and wishes the injured officers a speedy recovery.

The spokespersons noted that threats from extremists in the country have been enormous, but the police will continue to function maximally to ensure peace and stability in the entire nation. He also urged citizens to be understanding with the police who have been faced with various crimes in society.
