The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that registered voters will commence collecting the permanent voters’ card on Thursday, October 17, 2024, ahead of the preparation for the governorship election to be conducted in November in Ondo State.
The collection was announced on Monday in a statement by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. According to the calender by the INEC the election in state to elect the new governenoe is scheduled to hold on November 16, 2024.
The INEC Commissioner disclosed in the published statement that 89,777 new PVCs have been successfully printed and sent to the INEC office in Akure, the state capital.
The statement noted that the released voter cards included those of prospective voters who had applied to the commission for transfer updates or replacements of lost and damaged PVCs. He noted that the delivered PVCs include 58,708 new voters while 31,069 fall under the other categories.
He noted that prospective voters will be able to receive their cards at 221 designated centres across the state, he explained that First, in all the 203 Wards from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st October 2024. Secondly, in our 18 LGA offices from Wednesday 23rd to Tuesday 29th October 2024 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily which includes weekends.
The statement further confirmed that individuals that have failed to receive their cards in the past elections in state will have the opportunity to take theirs with the period at the cemtres.
The statement noted that the commission will not allow the collection of the cards by proxy for any reason. It was noted that detailed information, including the location addresses of the Ward and Local Government collection centres, has been uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information.
All registered voters were urged to visit the centres to collect their cards, which will guarantee their participation in the November elections.
The statement confirmed that in addition to pasting the register of new voters for each centre at the designated locations, the commission will also upload the entire collection register for the new voters to the website to facilitate easy identification of names and collection centres for the seamless collection of the PVCs by the Citizens of the state.
