The president of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries, International, Pastor Isa El-Buba, has declared that protests in Plateau will continue after Governor Caleb Mutfwang lifts the curfew.
The Christian leader explained the recent decision on Monday after the governor of the state, Caleb Mutfwang, imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state to curb the breakdown of law and order, which could arise from the recent protest initiated by the citizens because of what they call hunger and bad governance.
The state governor announced the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, effective midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The state chief security officer explained that the decision was made after wide consultation with the country’s security agencies.
He noted the decision was made after some criminal elements in the state made use of the ongoing protest to exploit the residents and loot properties belonging to innocent citizens.
The curfew was announced by the governor’s spokesperson, Gyang Bere, on Sunday in the state.
A disturbing video in the state captured some criminals in the state looting properties belonging to a restaurant owner; in the video, an individual complained about the criminal act, explaining that peaceful protest should not drive fellow citizens into hardship
Reacting in a video posted on his X handle, Mr El-Buba expressed his disappointment with the curfew imposed by the governor. He noted that the protest in the state has been peaceful throughout; it began on the first of August.
The pastor commended the protesters for their act of brotherhood demonstrated by the Christians and Muslims through the demonstrations so far; he noted the willingness of both faiths to protect each other while practising their rituals was commendable.
Speaking further, it was noted that thousands of Muslims on the first and second days of the exercise were protected by the multitude of Christian brothers and sisters who ensured that they prayed successfully. On Sunday, the Muslims reciprocated the gesture to ensure that the Christians had a successful Sunday service.
He criticised the governor, noting that the issue that broke out at the restaurant was not enough to warrant a dusk-to-dawn curfew.
The pastor further cautioned protesters not to fight with law enforcement officials in the state during the protest he advised them to remain calm while not heeding the threats from government officials at the federal and state levels
Earlier on Sunday, the protesters in the state capital, Jos, took to the streets to continue the exercise, which began on Sunday; the climax of the Sunday protest was Christians observing their Sunday service on the street led by the president of EL-Buba Outreach Ministries, International, Pastor Isa El-Buba.
