The Kano state governor Abba Yusuf, has announced the desolution to the caretaker committees of all 44 LGAs in the state.
The resolution was announced in a statement by the spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor of the state, on Wednesday. The statement noted that the removed individuals should hand over to the director’s personnel management (DPMs) in the respective local governments.
The state governor noted that the activities of the local government will be controlled by the directors until the state government goes on to conduct another election across the local goverenmts. In an earlier announcement the Kano state LGA election has been slated for October 26.
The statement further noted that the state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf thanked the outgoing Interim Management Committee members for their commitment in steering affairs of the local governments for half a year. the statement further noted that the state governor has expressed his willingness to to reckon with them and work with them for the growth and benefit of the state.
The extension, which would have run from September 9 to November 9, 2024, is now nullified following the dissolution.
The statement also charged the Directors’ Personnel Management to be transparent and work according to the rules and regulations that guide the operations of the local government and the best practices the state government praches.
It was disclosed that that the extension of the tenure was requested by the states deputy governor and the Commissioner for Local Government, Comrade Abdul Salam Gwarzo.
The request for an extension was read in court by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Dala, at plenary on Monday, September 9, 2024.
He claimed that according to the law, the appointment of an interim caretaker was approved when the elected chairman was for a period of three months and could be extended by two months and that it was important.
