A federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ousted out the Julius Abure-led Exco members of the Labour Party and reaffirms the Usman Nenadi-led Exco as the authentic leadership of the Labour Party.
Following the new development, the court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize and acknowledge the Usman Nenadi-led Exco with immediate effect.
The court also invalidate all candidates produced under the ousted Julius Abure-led leadership for purposes of elections.
Justice Peter Lifu who gave the verdict on Wednesday insists that the Usman Nenadi-led Exco members will pilot the affairs of the party pending when the party holds their national convention and properly elect new leaders.
The judgement followed a suit marked: THC/ABJ/CS/2262/2025, which the former minister lodged before the court and an earlier verdict of the Supreme Court on April 4, 2024, which declared the Julius Abure-led executive of the party invalid.
The court dismissed Abure’s contention in which he claimed that the party’s crisis was merely internal and non-justiceable, therefore needed no Supreme Court intervention. The court maintained that setting up a caretaker committee was an absolute necessity for resolving the crisis.
