Toheeb Adediran, a middle-aged man who admitted to dealing in 4.418 kg of cannabis, was placed under detention at the Agodi Correctional Centre on Friday by a Federal High Court in Ibadan. After being charged with one count of trafficking in illegal narcotics and being arraigned before Justice Ekerete Akpan, Adediran admitted his guilt.
As a result, Akpan postponed the lawsuit until July 2 in order to present the evidence and provide a decision.
The defendant committed the offense on March 3 in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, according to testimony given earlier in court by Ms. Ann Balogun, legal counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Oyo State Command.
Balogun continued, saying that worried Nigerians had tipped off the NDLEA agents that Adediran was in possession of 4.418 kg of illegal drugs.
According to the prosecution, the offense was committed in violation of NDLEA Act, Cap. n30 Law of the Federation 2004, Section 11(C). In a different move, the court also mandated Emmanuel Ayorinde’s remand to the Agodi Correctional Facility for allegedly combining code with 5.25 liters of liquid drugs.
The lawsuit was postponed by Akpan until July 15 in order to consider requests for bail and start the trial. The defendant committed the alleged offenses on March 19 at the New Garage neighborhood of Ibadan, Oyo State, the prosecutor had told the court.
She claimed that NDLEA agents captured Ayorinde after intelligence reports showed that he was blending illegal, dangerous drugs, like as coding, with liquid to sell to customers.
Balogun further informed the court that 17.4 kg of cannabis sativa, hidden in a sack, were found on the defendant when he was taken into custody. (NAN)
