In its latest report, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency predicted thunderstorms and rains across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
The weather report and outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja has predicted that there will be thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday.
In the other parts of Northern Nigeria, Nimet predicted the arrival of thunderstorms over the parts of Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa States during afternoon and evening hours.
According to Nimet, the North central region of the country with states such as Nasarawa and Niger states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, will experience thunderstorms during the morning hours of Wednesday. The report also disclosed that thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Kwara States during the day of Wednesday.
The souther states of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, according to the report will experience thunderstorms in the morning hours, while intermittent rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.
The outlook further predicted that there would be thunderstorms Taraba and Adamawa States during the morning hours while some parts of Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba are expected to witness thunderstorms during the day. In the North Central region, rain is anticipated over parts of Plateau and Benue States during the morning hours the report disclosed.
While in the afternoon/evening hours, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara and Benue States. The report also predicted intermittent rains in the southern cities; and parts of Enugu and Anambra States during the morning hours.
NiMet predicted intermittent rains over parts of Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta States later in the day to Wednesday.
The agency predicted thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa and Taraba States in the northern region during the Friday morning hours. The same is expected over parts of Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Zamfara States later in the day.
On Friday, the agency predicted rains over parts of Nasarawa and Niger during the morning hours in the North Central region, while localised thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara and Niger States later in the day.
The forecast further predicted cloudy skies in the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over the Inland cities, with prospects of intermittent rains over the Coastal cities in the southern cities of the country.
The report urged residents to avoid areas that are prone to flooding while making use of highlands. They further noted that there was a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours.
The agency disclosed that the forecast had predicted strong winds to precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur; the public should take adequate precautions and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
