The police in Kebbi State have announced the neutralization of one suspected bandit while the operative of the command has arrested two others. It was explained that the suspects had been terrorising local communities in the past months.
The neutralization and the arrest of the two were announced by the command spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar in a statement issued on Friday; he noted that during the arrest, three AK47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
He noted that the operation was part of the command’s effort to crack down on the individuals carrying out serious crimes that are affecting the residents of the state. He disclosed that the operatives learned that, at about 1 pm on June 21, 2024, armed bandits who were on motorcycles in large numbers invaded the Kurgeye village, Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, and kidnapped Malami Danladi and his son, Bello Danladi.
When the report was passed to the command, according to the police, a team of police officers who were on special duty with some men of the vigilante group in the community took after the bandits, which resulted in a massive gunfire exchange.
The police noted that when the officer overpowered the bandits, one of them was shot while an AK47 rifle was recovered with an empty magazine.
In a separate operation on September 3rd, 2024, the statement revealed that the police VGN members carried out a joint operation along the Ribah-Kanya Road. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals: Isiya Alhaji Usman and Yunusa Yusuf, both from Auda village in Danko/Wasagu LGA. The two individuals have been suspected of being part of the bandits terrorising the area.

In reaction to the operatives’ success, the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, applauded the officers for their professionalism and urged them to improve their performance at all times.
He also called for more collaboration between the state’s security agencies, noting that such an effort would help tackle banditry and other criminal activities and ensure the state’s socio-economic stability.
The CP also ordered that the suspects and the weapons recorded from them be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
