The Oyo State Government, on Tuesday, announced that it has placed a ban on holding meetings in and outside the school environment during school hours by the Headteachers or teachers, stating that such act is punishable by the government.
The Chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, made an announcement while going around schools to monitor school resumption in Ibadan, the state capital.
He noted that it was a warning that had been sent to all head teachers and teachers to discontinue all forms of meetings that were being held by schools during work hours. He noted any headteacher who is found with such an act will be severely punished by the government.
He further called on all unions and associations that have been operating in the basic education sub-sector to adhere strictly to the policy, as the schools resmes to begin the new aceemic season in te state.
He also directed the Education Secretaries in the state’s local governments to communicate the new directive to all the head teachers in their respective Local Government universal basic education authorities.
In a different development, the executive established that the board was committed to leveraging the use of technology to ensure the improvement of education in the state. This was disclosed when the state government organised a three-day capacity building on the use of the BESDA Attendance Monitoring Information System. He noted that the state government had brought together the training in order to help develop the skills of educators in the state.
He also disclosed that the government had invested a huge amount of money and time for the implication of the programme in order to help in the growth of basic education, which is important for educational growth. a
