Gospel ministers of Igbo descent have lashed at the South-East governors for being too passive in response to the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and that they ought to take more initiative rather than taking the easy route.
The ministers of God, speaking on behalf of the Concerned Igbo Ministers Commission, noted that t all Westerners played in Sunday Igboho’s release, saying that “all Yoruba monarchs, politicians, and bishops rallied around Mr. Igboho until his release was secured.”
The group bemoaned, “We openly accuse the South-East governors of playing chicken,” in a news release signed by Apostle Tony Osuji, the general secretary, and Rev. Tony Uzor Anthony, the commission’s international president and coordinator.
“What is it they are afraid of? That they will become irrelevant the day Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu is released? Why do they prioritise their interests over that of the Igbo people as a whole, the group continued.
They urged the governors to “please stand for their own as the governors of the South-West stood for Sunday Igboho,” cautioning that “our governors should also note that the protection of Mazi Kanu is part of the oath of office that they took.”
They raved, “Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu is a man God has given us for the general good of our people, born and unborn. Let’s come together as a people and pursue our common goal, more so, the release of Mazi Kanu.
“Kanu does not hate any of you but is focused on the general good of our people. Please prove this noble body wrong by making sure that Ndi Igbo are fully represented to meet with Mr President in respect of his release.”
The pastors also charged all legislators, bishops, and traditional leaders to take a stand on this momentous day to request for Kanu’s release.
They added, “No individual interest of the governors in the South-East should supersede the interest of Ndi Igbo at large. It appears evidently that the South-East governors, who recently assured us of their efforts to secure the release of Kanu, have suddenly gone quiet. The question is how come nobody is clamouring for the release of our brother, the IPOB leader?”
