The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man with an identity hidden for an alleged offence of defiling a four-year-old girl in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
It was learned that the incident had taken place on Thursday when the teenager had visited the home of the grandmother after the mother had instructed her to do so in Ubulu-Uku. It was noted that the arrest of the suspect was supported by a human rights activist, Mr Harrison Gwamnishu, on Friday in the state.
The police noted that when the report was received, the officer responded to the complaints over the molestation of a teenager by an over-50-year-old man on Friday.
The police further disclosed that the officers left the hospital and arrested the suspect after the victim had personally identified the suspect, the suspect according to the police was handed over to the police at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogwashi Uku where he is currently held for for further investigation.
The mother who spoke about the incident in social media video which has circulated noted that she had gone for a fasting and prayer programme in the church.
She noted that she had directed the child to visit the grandmother after her return from school because of her church programme. She noted after her church programme, she checked for her return from school after the church programme and discovered the molestation.
The mother noted that the child had explained that her buttocks were hurting her before her bath; she noted that when the place was opened, sperm were discovered in her private area. After a series of questions, the child described the suspect as the individual who had defiled her. The mother noted that the victim had described the person’s brother with the leg injury as the person who had committed the offence.
She explained that she felt pained, but I didn’t want to ask him. She further noted that she was laying curses on him, and the letter went to report to the mother’s brother the following day.
She explained that the mother told me to go to the police station in Ubulu-Uku. I went, and I was told to go to the hospital for a medical test. She said he is the one,” the woman alleged.
When contacted on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the situation and the arrest of the suspect. He noted that the incident was confirmed by the police.
