The police in Kanu state have announced the arrest of a robbery suspect in the state who was armed with an AK47 rifle with 457 rounds of ammunition and N4,986,000.00
The arrest was confirmed by the Police public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement on Tuesday in the state.
He explained that at about 2 am on Monday, the residents of Yandadi Village in the Kunch Local Government Area of the state had reported to the police an invitation from armed robbers who had taken away the sum of Fifteen million naira from him.
The PPRO noted that the commissioner of police in the state, CP Salman Dogo Garba, who has been active in managing the ongoing nationwide protest, sent a team of proactive men to the scene of the robbery. He added that a deployment of intelligence-led men of the force was asked to visit the area.
He explained that the professional conduct of the officers deployed to the incident area led to the suspect’s arrest while their operational vehicle was recovered, too.
Giving an update on other arrests made in the state, Haruna noted that on the same date at about 6:00 a.m., the mastermind behind the rubbery was arrested in the state when he attempted to escape on a motorcycle. He noted that the mastermind was Hassan Iliya, 35 years old, of Alhazawa Village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State.
An assessment of the residence of the suspect led to the recovery of an AK47 riffle with 47 rounds of ammunition. He explained that the police were still investigating the incident.
The statement further urged residents to remain good citizens of the country and shun every act of violence that could instigate violence or lead to violence.
Kanu state has been in the news since the start of the August 1st hunger protest, which led to the looting of NCC Industrial Park park in the state; police in the state have since announced the arrest of over 500 persons linked to the act.
Also a suspect has been arrest for the sawing of the Russian Flag for the protesters in the state, a curfew was earlier announced in the state by the state governor Abba Yusuf but has been relaxed which has aided the free movement of individuals in the state.
