Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised MTN Nigeria for donating 4,600 digital devices to be distributed to schools and N1 billion to the Federal Government’s Food Support Programme.
He claimed that the telecom company’s contribution to the government’s initiatives to alleviate poverty in the nation is commendable and demonstrates its dedication to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
Shettima expressed his pride in MTN’s stability and dedication to the advancement of the country in a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Information, Office of the Vice President.
“We have witnessed a couple of changes in the industry, but you have remained stable and strong. On behalf of my boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I want to sincerely thank you for this gesture,” he said.
This was said by the Vice President yesterday during a courtesy call at the Presidential Villa with Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, the Chairman of MTN Nigeria.
Senator Shettima stated that the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) will prudently oversee the company’s donation during his meeting with the chairman of MTN Nigeria.
The Vice President announced that the MTN team will collaborate with his office to finalise the beneficiary criteria and expedite the distribution of the 4,600 digital gadgets, which come pre-installed with the U-lesson application, to secondary schools across the six geopolitical zones.
He conveyed his belief that the company’s gesture would significantly aid the government’s endeavours to tackle the nation’s circumstances, encompassing the provision of educational assistance to the impoverished and susceptible.
In addition to urging other businesses to follow MTN’s lead in the field of corporate social responsibility, the vice president gave the business community reassurance that the Tinubu administration is still pro-business and that its policies will soon start to show for everyone to see.
The Chairman of MTN Nigeria had earlier in his speech praised the Federal Government for its efforts to turn around the nation’s economy by implementing a number of measures across all of the government’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He vowed the company’s support for the current government, pointing out that the action is consistent with MTN Nigeria’s shared value objectives of “the AMBITION 2025 strategy,” which calls for MTN to back important federal government programs.
On the N1 billion donation, Mr. Ndukwe said, “It aims to support the most vulnerable, marginalized, and underserved communities, ensuring no one is left behind through increased collaboration and partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
He expressed optimism that the company’s donated gadgets will help the federal government achieve its goal of improving secondary school digital literacy while also enhancing students’ access to up-to-date science and technology information and fostering creativity, analytical thinking, and flexibility.
