Woman who jumped off Third Mainland Bridge recovered dead

A woman, who has not yet been identified, tragically jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge yesterday for an unknown reason, after several efforts by the Marine police, her body was recovered dead.

The incident occurred at about 4:00 pm yesterday, around the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront spot axis. Eyewitness narrates that the Marine Police who were stationed around the area quickly switched to rescue operations to recover the body.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that medical personnel at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital pronounced her dead upon arrival.

“Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours.

“She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division.”

“Her body has been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, for preservation.”
