Super Eagles extended their lead at the top of their 2025 AFCON qualification group after a narrow triumph over stubborn Libya.

Bashiru’s late goal was enough to clinch a fine victory for the Nigerian talents to boost their way into the 2025 AFCON qualification.

The match which started as an equal dominance despite Super Eagles’ possessive approach foresaw an intense marking and the dearth of chances.

Perhaps, Nigeria was able to find several spots for a lead but couldn’t convert it with their awful approach.

The game would come alive after Ademola Lookman converted Samuel chukwueze’s fine assist, however, it was flagged offside marking a consecutive offside goal for the Super Eagles as of their last two campaign.

Forthcoming with a change of tactics in the second half, Moses Simon created the only chance that gave Nigeria a comfortable lead after Bashiru didn’t cease to convert it.

The final whistle attributed the end of the game and also analysis that has sparked reactions among fans.

Some fans are pushing for NFF to file a considerate appeal to CAF and FIFA for the Super Eagles’ Lookman’s two dissallowed goals ruled offside in their last two games. They believe Lookman was clearly onside.

Other point of view identifies Victor Boniface who is currently facing backlash for failing to find the back of the net despite his staggering form at the club level.

Super Eagles’ Goalkeeper Nwabali also was able to return his frustration after Bashiru’s goal following Libya’s outgorous delaying tactics they deployed to scrap a point from Nigeria. This he portrayed by faking advances on the pitch and further mocked Libya on his social media platforms after the game.

Nigeria will travel to Libya for their next away 2025 AFCON qualification match as they hope to attain yet another vital three points from stubborn Libya.
