The governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi Sule has dissolved the board of the Nasarawa United after gaining promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 2024/2025 NPFL season.
The governor represented by the deputy governor of the state Emmanuel Akabe disclosed the recent decision after meeting Jafaru Ango, the commissioner for Youths and Sports and other officials in the state on Tuesday.
Though the full details of the decision were not provided, the media officer of the team Eche Amos who spoke to the press explained that “The specifics of the reasons behind the dissolution and the future direction for the club will be provided in due course,”.
The Nasarawa side was crowned champion of the Nigeria National League which gave them an automatic promotion to the NPL after missing the 2023/2024.
The decision currently has left the fate of the technical crew to hang as the preparations for the 2024/25 season have kicked off among different teams in the country. The team was relegated after the 2023 abridged season.
Also, a new board has been constituted by the Ondo state governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the Ondo State Sports Agency.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, who disclosed the new development noted that the governor has appointed former Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in the State, Bamidele Ologunlowuwa, as the new chairman of ODSFA.
A part of the statement explained that “The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of members of the board of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA),”
The governor had further charged all individuals appointed to be steadfast in dealing with the team with their wealth of experience.
“The Governor charges the new board members to bring their wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on improving football administration in Ondo State.”
Others appointed to work with Ologunlowuwa are the former Sunshine Queens coach Oladimeji Abimbola, former chairman of the Sports Writers Association in the state a veteran sports journalist and Akintunde Akinsemola, as full-time members.
Tokunbo Akinyelure, who until his appointment has gathered experience working as the team manager of Sunshine Stars, and Evelyn Lebi are also part of the board as part-time members representing the football associations and the state’s ministry of sports.
