The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stated on Sunday that two passengers on a Qatar Airways flight headed for Doha had been taken into custody by its agents at the screening area of Terminal 2 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. The passengers’ tests revealed that they had consumed illegal substances on Friday, June 21.
“The suspects, Aikhomoun Daniel (alias Oladapo Olanrewaju) and Ayigoro Waheed Omobolaji, were taken into observatory custody. Daniel excreted a total of 90 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.022 kg in six excretions, while Ayigoro discharged 60 wraps of the same Class A substance with a total weight of 662 grams in five egestions,” the spokesman for the agency stated.
After more research, it was discovered that Aikhomoun Daniel had used his late uncle’s identity, who had once been based in Germany, to obtain a Schengen visa, which allowed him unrestricted entry into Europe. He goes by Oladapo Olanrewaju in real life.
At the Port Harcourt Ports complex in Onne, Rivers State, NDLEA agents seized 6,125 cartons of codeine syrup that contained 1,050,000 opioid bottles, valued at about N7.35 billion on the black market.
After thorough tracing of the consignments from their port of departure by an NDLEA special operations unit and the receipt of reliable intelligence, six containers were seized on Saturday, June 29, marking the third such operation in the previous four weeks.
Operatives from the NDLEA broke up a drug party in Abuja tagged “Go Hard or Go Home.” In the Sun City estate in the Federal Capital Territory, 60 suspects—25 men and 35 women—were taken into custody during the “Pick Your Poison” campaign. Stanley Ikechukwu, who was detained at the location, was the party’s organizer, and reliable information about it led to the raid. There were six suspects discovered with varying amounts of cannabis and ecstasy.
Twenty of the accused who tested negative for narcotics were given unconditional parole, per the directive of Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa, the retired Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA. 33 more people who tested positive for illegal drugs were scheduled to be freed on bond and report to the Agency’s FCT Command on Monday in order to start therapy and counseling.
Furthermore, along Lekki-Ikoyi road, a black Toyota Tacoma truck carrying around 40.32 kg of an imported strong cannabis strain called Loud was found when the driver abandoned the vehicle upon realizing NDLEA agents were pursuing him.
Additionally, on Saturday, June 29, NDLEA agents searched and burned 18,632.22 kg of cannabis on 7.452888 hectares of farmland. As a result, four suspects—Endurance Okon, 24, Joseph Michael, 23, Ovoco Bright, 43, and Goday Abanum, 23—were taken into custody in a deep woodland in Ugun, Igueben LGA, Edo State.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), commended the officers and men of the MMIA, Port Harcourt Ports, Lagos, and Edo Commands for their arrests, seizures, and dexterity. However, he cautioned the drug cartels that regardless of how creative their trafficking methods were, the committed staff of the Agency,will constantly stay one step ahead of them to expose them and foil their techniques in cooperation with other partners and stakeholders. He asked the nation’s law enforcement officials to stick with the agency’s current, well-rounded approach to drug control.
