The Gombe State Government has visited and sympathised with the government and people of Borno State after the recent flood disaster, which affected major parts of the state capital and surrounding communities.
In a visit to the state by the state’s government through a high power delegation on Friday led by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau. The Bauchi State government presented a donation of N100 million, which should be used to assist the victims of flood in the state.
The donation and the visit were announced in a statement by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, on Friday.
The statement disclosed that the government had passed a heartfelt sympathy of the people of Gombe state to the good people of Borno state at the Government House and the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri. The statement dosclsoed that the government of the had innitited the visit inorder to strengthen the good bond that had existed between the two state in the past years.
Speaking on the incident during the visit, the Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, stated that the government of Bauchi Satate had received the devasting at a moment when the state governor was on an official abroad visit. The SSG explained that the governor had directed for a visit because of the relationship that has existed between the two states for the past years.
While responding, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed satisfaction with the visit by the Bauchi State government and thanked them for expressing great concern about the unfortunate incident. He promised that the donated amount would be perfectly used by the state to alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons.
After speaking with the government house, the delegation also visited the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Al’amin Elkanami, to offer sympathy and condolences to the highly respected monarch. The deligation prayed for the successful repose of the souls of the victims of the attack and stated that the lessons from the incident will be used to avoid a reoccurance.
The Shehu of Borno, while expressing sadness about the incident, disclosed that the incident that happened in the state was worse than the one that took place thirty years ago.
To mark the end of the visit, the delegation visited the scene of the disaster in the state capital, Maiduguri.
