Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri has publicly questioned the president of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari over the arrest of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu while beating around the bush with the Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who is allegedly linked to bandits.
He is baffled by how he spared a leader who is confidently linked to bandits attacking Nigerian citizens and arrested a freedom fighter.

On Tuesday, when he featured on a Channels TV programme, he declared that Gumi had become somebody no one could touch, adding that it was very unfair.
In his words, he said:
“Two things I have to say; first, they should give him (Nnamdi Kanu) a fair hearing so that the trial will not be done in a way that everyone (especially the Igbo) will see it as oppression.”
“Second, as we talk about the IPOB, what about the boys (bandits and herdsmen) organising killings in the North and the whole country? What of Sheik Gumi? He has become somebody no one can touch. That’s very unfair.”
Gumi also has on several occasions warned the government to stop the killing of bandits in confidence.
