The police in Kaduna State have announced the arrest of a notorious gunrunner in the state with the recovery of 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles.
The arrest was made public by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, in Kaduna on Friday; He was arrested by the police on the Buruku Bridge during a routine patrol by officers from the Buruku Division. It was disclosed that the suspect, named Bitrus Gyang, was from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.
He was arrested with the twenty rifles, and an empty Type 06 magazine was kept hidden in the boot of his black Golf III saloon vehicle.
The suspect, during interrogations, told the police that he had sold the rifles he had fabricated to different locations in the state. He noted that he has been in the business for a couple of years now.
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi commended the officers of the command for their efforts in apprehending the criminal. He noted the efforts of the police will be sustained in the state with the effort of making sure that no criminal ius allowed to breath or destroy lives. He noted that the police will continue to be offensive against bandits and kidnappers.
It was noted that the arrest was made on September 19, 2024, at about 1600 hours by the officers attached to the Buruku Division, while on search mission in the state.
The police noted that an intensive search was conducted by the operatives in the state, and the criminal was found with so many items that led to his arrest.
In an earlier operation conducted in the country, the police had announced the arrest of 2,700 suspects who had been in the act of gunrunning in the country. The operations, according to the police, were conducted in the country for the past months.
