On wednesday, the Nigerian House of Representatives’ Special Committee on Constitution Review received a proposal to change Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic (UAR)
On 2nd June 2021, Adeleye Jokotoye, the Nigerian tax consultant submitted the proposal to the committee at the South West Zonal Public Hearing in Lagos which has spanked debate among Nigerians.
According to his claim, he announced his reasons behind the proposal while reporting it. In his words, he vowed that the Nigerian name should be replaced with UAR so far it’s imposing the glory of the past colonial masters.

He also added that a change of name will clearly unite and thrive a new phase and buoyancy of the country.
In his words, he said:
“At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution”
